Hot Dogs and Cereal

We have no oven, no stove, no sink. We are reduced to hot dogs, cereal, and other type of quick foods. The granola in me won't just use disposable plates, so we're washing dishes in the bathtub. It's going to be beautiful, but right now its just a beautiful disaster. Please feel free to have us over for dinner... PLEASE!!!!!

Beautiful weather for snowboarding yesterday (we're inside by the fire today because its pouring outside.) Here's a couple of videos to prove we didn't spend the whole day on our butts...

Getting Closer

We're almost done.... We've spent the last month tearing out and rebuilding our master bathroom. There are a few things left to do this week but by this time next week I think it'll be complete. You can see the before and after pics up to this point here. I'll be posting more as we wrap things up.

Lucky Oliver Stock Photography

While at SXSW last week I met the team from and was introduced to a new site on the Stock Photography block. Lucky Oliver is a community stock photo site similar to iStockPhoto.com. If you are a photographer you can submit photos that can earn you money the more they are downloaded and purchased. If you are a designer, you can browse their growing collection and purchase photographs for web or print use. Image prices depend on size and range from 1-5 dollars. While I'm excited just to have another option, I asked what differentiated Lucky Oliver from iStockPhoto. Their plan is to be much more helpful to the photographers who make up their site. If a submitted image is rejected for any reason, they plan to not only tell why, but also offer suggestions on what the photographer can do next time to increase their chances of having the image accepted. I've added LuckyOliver.com to my bookmarks/design toolbox and plan on using them soon. I'm even planning on trying my hand at submitting some images in the future. Caught this interview with my favorite living artist as I was flipping through the channels before bed a few nights ago. Charlie Rose is a great interviewer and does an especially good job with the artists I've seen him sit down with. When he respects and admires a guest it really shines through. Sarah and I got the chance to meet Chuck Close at his Self Portrait Retrospective opening while passing through San Francisco back in November 2005.

For the past two years I have had the opportunity at work to travel out to Austin, TX for the South by Southwest Interactive festival. The festival is arguably the one of the biggest and most fun gatherings of web professionals each year. It's been a huge learning experience and inspiration for me on each trip. The dates for this year's conference are March 9-13. SXSW sends out an email announcement highlighting the latest confirmed speakers and seminars each month that includes a trivia question that, if answered correctly, enters you into a drawing for free registration to the event. I usually try to enter hoping that one month I might be the winner. I found out this weekend that this month I WON!!! See the announceent on sxsw.com

Sufjan Stevens' box set of Christmas tunes releases today. We've ordered ours and it should be here any day now. The set includes 5 discs of traditional and new Christmas songs Sufjan recorded himself as Christmas gifts to his friends and family over the past several years as well as some cool original artwork. You can stream the entire set of albums at this site. Also check out this video of the original song "Put the Lights on the Tree."

Weekend in Greenville

Sarah and I took advantage of the holiday weekend and spent Saturday and Sunday in Greenville, SC. It was an easy trip with out having to deal with the normal interstate traffic. It had been a long time since I had been to Greenvile but I had heard good things from several people ove rthe past year.

Greenville is a great town with a nice downtown area... Main Street is full of cool restaurants and shops. The Reedy River runs through the southern part of downtown and there are some beautiful greenspaces and a unique pedestrian, suspension bridge in the Falls Park area.

On our knees

We've spent the last few weekes ripping out carpet, vacuuming up unbelieveable amounts of sand, pulling up tack strip, sawing, and laying down new "hazelnut oak" laminate flooring. It's a project we've been wantig to do for a while now. We're probably about half way through at this point and it's looking great. If anyone wants to help, we've got some kneepads ith your name on them!
